Gerber Legendary Blades: Cutting an Edge Since 1939
For over 80 years, Gerber knives have been synonymous with reliability, innovation, and durability. Founded in 1939 by Joseph Gerber, the company started as a small batch knife manufacturer in Portland, Oregon.
Gerber was committed to quality from the very beginning, infusing lessons from his time as a young boy working in his father’s knife factory in Germany. By the 1960s, Gerber knives were renowned among hunters and outdoorsmen for their meticulous craftsmanship. The iconic Gerber Mark II fighting knife was a standard issue for American troops in Vietnam, saving countless lives with its battle-tested dependability.
Staying ahead of trends, Gerber Knives pioneered the one-hand opening knife in 1966 – long before it became an essential EDC tool. As an early advocate for proprietary knife steel, Gerber broke new ground in knife technology throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Their inaugural Matterhorn folder featured a low-magnetic stainless steel perfect for climbers navigating alpine environments. The company has continued pushing boundaries, experimenting with premium steels, tactically-inspired designs, and even industrial scissors through its partnership with Bear Grylls.
From batoning firewood to cutting seat belts, Gerber knives have your back through life’s unexpected challenges. Their unmatched legacy of reliability and innovation verges on 75 years and counting.
