Zac Brown’s Southern Grind History
Forged in the heartland of knife country, Southern Grind embodies the backroads craftsmanship of Zac Brown’s beloved Georgia. Custom knife maker Zac Brown founded the company in 1996, channeling his passion for handmade blades into a mission of bringing custom quality to production knives.
Brown single-handedly built the foundation for Southern Grind knives, stock removal and grinding each blade by hand in his homemade shop, bringing an obsessive attention to detail that rivaled custom makers. Every bevel reflected his commitment to old-fashioned Southern values of honesty, integrity, and hard work.
Early Southern Grind patterns paid homage to Zac’s outdoorsman roots with designs tailored for hunting, fishing, and camping. However, it was their award-winning Bad Monkey series that rocketed Southern Grind to the forefront of everyday carry knives in the early 2000s.
While many companies outsourced manufacturing overseas, Southern Grind knives continued to be made by hand in their Georgia workshop. Zac Brown brought together a community of like-minded knifemakers who shared his devotion to quality craftsmanship.
Even as Southern Grind grew, they never lost sight of their homemade roots – that personal touch enhances every knife they make. While they now offer more tactical and exotic materials, Southern Grind still embodies the hospitality of Southern culture blended with the rugged durability of a trusted field companion.
